Digiing: Explore the Digital World

"Digiing" is a verb and noun coined to mean image making, editing, and presentation in the digital format. Digital image making includes scanned graphics and photography with a digital camera. The editing of images involves software like Photoshop as a digital darkroom and as a medium for creating/elaborating upon visual work. Lastly, digital image presentation encompasses creating Flash animation and building your own webpage with XHTML, PHP, CSS; etc. These are all possible by learning to digi... some call digiing "Digital Media." Private lessons are always built around your personal goals and pace!

Dear Spring 2014 Students: Below are the "optional enrichment notes" about subjects on which we will focus each week (The most recent version is posted here as the notes are finished). They are NOT meant for you to master in our short 10 weeks of class; just become aware of the possibilities of painting, and gather only as much as you have time and patience. You can always come back to them online, here. It took me about exactly 20 years to "learn" what is below and additional time to compile them into a reference for you. Please don't get overwhelmed by the information. A little at a time and practice will take you a long way. Remember, that you never have to read these "optional enrichment notes" to participate in class -- just come, be ready to paint and have fun!

Sketching with Gouache

This exciting class with gouache, also known as bodycolor to J.M.W. Turner and Matisse, explores the unique properties of the medium being both a transparant watercolor at times and an opacque paint at others. It is water based and is just as easy to set up and clean as watercolor; in addition, gouache has colors more true to the visible light spectrum than any other medium -- except digital. This class caters to everyone from those who have never held a brush to artists who paint with watercolor and would like to gain from a new experience. The individual attention provided will enable anyone to follow along and develop new skills while enjoying the creation of art with your own hands. Each session will be tailored to your specific needs! The Observed and the Constructed Perspective

As with color, perspective applies to work in every medium of visual art. It is a technique that gives the illusion of 3-dimensions on a 2-dimensional surface. One can capture it through sketching from observation or construct it from architectural drafting. This seminar will examine both methods. The instructor has discovered multiple techniques in perspective construction of which only a hand full of people are aware. This is an indepth course that you will not get anywhere else!
